Independent, Happy, Cheerful, Outgoing, Playful You might think Sum Wat is somewhat of a strange name, but it was actually where the inspectors found me as a stray on 16 October 2023 – Sum Wat Road in Lantau! Big, noisy trucks scare me, but otherwise I am a happy, positive girl – friendly to both humans and dogs. I will happily jump into your lap or give you a cuddle. My best friend in the centre is Duncan (PN 545986) - we perfectly compliment one another’s personalities and I bring out a playful side to Duncan’s shy, gentle personality. We have found perfect balance and harmony together – we are the “Yin” to each other’s “Yang.” Although we can be adopted separately, we would love to find a loving home together – do you have space in your heart and home for young puppy love? Come visit us and see if we make a good match!

The Hong Kong Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) – as we were known in the early days – was formed by a group of volunteers in 1903 who wanted to prevent cruel treatment to livestock during transportation and slaughter. It was the first charity in Hong Kong to take on the challenge of dealing with all aspects of animal welfare. The work of the organisation was recognised by the UK’s Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty of Animals and changed its name to RSPCA HK in 1978, and changed again in 1997 to reflect the return of Hong Kong to mainland China. The founding principles of those early pioneers remains the same today: a belief that animals feel pain, hunger and thirst – just like humans – and we should not inflict suffering on them simply because they can’t defend themselves.
